Rooted in faith and inspired by family, our journey began with a simple spark: our daughter Rylee, whose curiosity, creativity, and love for scent first ignited our passion for candle-making. What started as a fun family activity soon became a calling — one grounded in purpose and legacy.

Then came Harlem — our youngest daughter — and with her, the soul of our brand. From the moment we learned her name, we knew we wanted to build something timeless. Her name became the heartbeat of Sugarhill Sunset, leading us to honor the spirit, creativity, and excellence of the Harlem Renaissance in everything we do.

Each candle is hand-poured with intention, blending clean-burning coconut soy wax with soulful fragrance stories. Our scents are designed to do more than fill a room — they shift the atmosphere. They make space for peace, reflection, connection, and celebration.

Shane Hodges Sr. — Founder & Creative Visionary

With a passion for legacy-building and a heart for community, Shane leads Sugarhill Sunset with vision, intention, and soul. His background in creative storytelling and love for culture fuel the brand’s identity — from scent development to the rich narratives behind every collection. Shane believes in crafting more than candles — he’s building atmosphere, memory, and meaning in wax.

Shelby Hodges — Co-Founder & Heart of Operations

Shelby is the grounding force behind Sugarhill Sunset. From curating packaging details to perfecting the customer experience, she ensures that every candle reflects excellence and elegance. She brings heart, structure, and a deep sense of purpose to the business, always making sure the brand stays rooted in faith and family values.

Rylee Hodges — Brand Muse & Chief Inspiration Officer 

Rylee brings spirit, joy, and a big voice to this family operation. Whether she’s helping pick out candle names, giving her honest feedback on fragrances, or popping into videos, she’s a creative in the making and the first to remind us what we’re building it all for.

Shane Hodges Jr. — Head of Quality Control (and Crumb Patrol)

At just 1 year old, Shane Jr. may not pour candles, but he lights up every room he’s in. Known for walking into meetings, inspecting packing paper, and ensuring the team stays on schedule — according to nap time, of course — he's an essential part of the Sugarhill Sunset vibe.

Harlem Hodges — Director of Divine Timing

At just one month old, Harlem is already shaping culture. The moment we learned we were having a daughter, her name came first — and with it, the heartbeat of our brand. Her arrival sparked the vision for Sugarhill Sunset, guiding us toward a legacy rooted in elegance, rhythm, and light.
Though she mostly supervises from naps and cuddles, Harlem carries the soul of our brand in her name — a daily reminder of where this journey began and the legacy we’re building.
